Obama Says His Mother-in-Law Lives in Chicago 'Neighborhood Where Gun Shots Go Off' :: 07/24/2014
On Monday President Barack Obama said his mother-in-law lived on the dangerous neighborhood in Chicago, just three days before NBC’s Today show aired a feature about her life in the White House.
"If you look at Michele, she grew up South Side," Obama said Monday at a town hall meeting. "And her mom still lives in a neighborhood where gunshots go off, and it can be rough where Michelle grew up."
The Today feature that aired Thursday morning called Marian Robinson, mother of Michelle Obama, the "first grandmother."
Robinson ended the TV spot saying, "My life is wonderful."
Today reported that Robinson spoke for the first time publicly about being in the White House.
"That's an overwhelming feeling, especially when you come from the South Side of Chicago," Robinson said when asked what it was like to have a daughter married to the president. "She ended up marrying a person who lived the same kind of life she did, but they both had great ambitions."
